International Space Station Operations Extended Until 2030

The White House greenlights another eight years of the floating laboratory

The International Space Station will continue orbiting Earth through at least 2030, NASA has announced. The White House “has committed to continuing station operations” for the next eight years, says NASA’s top official. Dating back to 1998, when its first modular component launched, the microgravity laboratory has hosted 251 individuals from 19 countries, maintaining a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit since November 2000. A 2018 draft budget by the Trump administration proposed an end to funding for the satellite in 2025, but it will now be around until at least 2030. In 2014, President Obama authorized another 10 years of ISS operations, extending the mission to 2024, four years longer than previously planned. “The United States’ continued participation on the ISS will enhance innovation and competitiveness,” Nelson said, “as well as advance the research and technology necessary to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under NASA’s Artemis program and pave the way for sending the first humans to Mars.”

    • The International Space Station will continue orbiting Earth through at least 2030.The White House “has committed to continuing station operations” for the next eight years, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement, which includes work with international partners in Canada (CSA), Europe (ESA), Japan (JAXA), and Russia (Roscosmos). “The International Space Station is a beacon of peaceful international scientific collaboration and for more than 20 years has returned enormous scientific, educational, and technological developments to benefit humanity,” Nelson said.
    • Dating back to 1998, when its first modular component launched, the microgravity laboratory has hosted 251 individuals from 19 countries, maintaining a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit since November 2000.Its future has been an open question in the last few years, though.

    • A 2018 draft budget by the Trump administration proposed an end to funding for the satellite in 2025, but it will now be around until at least 2030.”The United States’ continued participation on the ISS will enhance innovation and competitiveness,” Nelson said, “as well as advance the research and technology necessary to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under NASA’s Artemis program and pave the way for sending the first humans to Mars.
    • “Extending operations through 2030, according to NASA, will “continue another productive decade of research advancement” and facilitate the transition to commercial space stations in the late 2020s.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced in a statement that the White House “has committed to continuing station operations” for the next eight years, which involves collaboration with international partners in Canada (CSA), Europe (ESA), Japan (JAXA), and Russia (Roscosmos).

Nelson stated that the International Space Station is a shining example of peaceful international scientific collaboration that has yielded great scientific, educational, and technological advances to benefit humanity for more than twenty years.

The microgravity laboratory has housed 251 people from 19 countries since its first modular component launched in 1998, and has maintained a continuous human presence in low Earth orbit since November 2000.

He also said that the United States’ continued participation in the International Space Station will enhance innovation and competitiveness, as well as advance the research and technology required to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under NASA’s Artemis initiative and lay the groundwork for sending the first people to Mars.

However, in recent years, its future has remained a mystery. President Barack Obama renewed the ISS mission for another ten years in 2014, extending the program to 2024, four years longer than originally planned. The Trump administration proposed ending financing for the satellite in 2025 in its 2018 draught budget, but it will now be funded until at least 2030.

According to NASA, extending operations until 2030 will “continue another productive decade of research advancement” and ease the transition to commercial space stations in the late 2020s.

Google Pixel Watch Launch Expected In May 2022

Jon Prosser posted on Twitter that Google is planning on launching the Pixel Watch on May 26, a date that aligns with the company’s I/O developer conference.

Leaks and rumors suggest it will be a companion device to Google’s smartphones. In any case, most of what we think we know about the Pixel Watch is based on speculation and rumor, so this Android user is keeping his excitement in check.

    • Leaker Jon Prosser posted on Twitter that Google is planning on launching the Pixel Watch on May 26, a date that aligns with the company’s I/O developer conference.
    • He later corrected the timeline, claiming the watch had been delayed to Q1 2022.
    • Anything is possible, but leaks and rumours suggest the wearable will be a companion device to Google’s smartphones.
    • As for specs, the rumoured wearable could be powered by a Samsung Exynos chip and support Google Assistant, based on a report from 9to5Google that claims to have found a PIXEL_EXPERIENCE_WATCH feature tag within a Google app.
    • We don’t know how much the watch will cost, but a recent Business Insider report, corroborated by The Verge, claims it will be more expensive than a Fitbit and priced to compete against the Apple Watch.

Google’s upcoming Pixel smartwatch has been the subject of rumours for more than a year, and while we know basic specifics about the device, no precise release date has been suggested. That has now changed.

Google is aiming to release the Pixel Watch on May 26, according to Twitter leaker Jon Prosser, which coincides with the company’s I/O developer conference.

While Google hasn’t confirmed the release date, let alone the existence of a Pixel Watch, this latest leak should reassure Android users waiting for a true Apple Watch competitor because, as Prosser points out, this is the “first we’ve seen a set date on the device behind the scenes.” Furthermore, Google’s I/O 2022 conference, which took place from May 18 to 20 last year, would be a logical launchpad given that it’s where Google announced Wear OS 3, the most mea ningful update to its watch OS in a long itme.

Prosser previously stated that the watch would be unveiled alongside the Pixel 6 in October, but cautioned that the date was subject to change. Later, he clarified the schedule, indicating that the watch would be released in Q1 2022. The device is now expected to arrive in Q2.

After completing its acquisition of Fitbit last year, there was a lot of conjecture about how Google will handle smartwatches. It was unclear whether Google would sell a Pixel-branded device or follow Nest’s lead and rebrand its smartwatch division as Fitbit. It’s possible that the wearable will be a companion gadget to Google’s smartphones, but leaks and rumors suggest otherwise.

There have been rumors circulating about a Google smartwatch for a long time, and while the company has denied them in the past, this could be the time. According to a December story, the device’s codename is “Rohan,” and it will have a spherical face (like basically every other Android smartwatch). It is touted to include basic fitness tracking, such as step counts and heart rate monitoring, as well as additional Fitbit-like functions.

According to a report from 9to5Google, the suspected wearable could be powered by a Samsung Exynos chip and support Google Assistant, based on the discovery of a “PIXEL EXPERIENCE WATCH” feature tag within a Google app.

It’s natural to expect that Google would turn to Qualcomm, but keep in mind that Google cooperated with Samsung to help it solve its horrifically failing wearable OS. We wouldn’t be shocked if this collaboration included the use of each other’s hardware. If previous leaks are to be believed, the device has already been seen. Prosser claimed to have official advertising photographs on his YouTube channel late last year. They depict a watch with a circular shape and an almost bezel-free watch face that waterfalls at the edges, similar to the one seen in April renders.

We are not sure how much the watch will cost, but according to a recent Business Insider rumor backed up by The Verge, it will cost more than a Fitbit and will be priced to compete with the Apple Watch.

And, like the Apple Watch, the Pixel Watch (if that’s what it’s called) will require daily charging.

In any event, much of what we think we know about the Pixel Watch is based on rumor and supposition.

Recreational Drones Are Prohibited In The United Arab Emirates

Light Aircraft, Such as Gliders, Are Also Subject to the Restriction.

TDroneshe United Arab Emirates has banned the use of recreational drones and light sports aircraft. The ban comes into force on Sunday following recent attacks at an oil facility and Abu Dhabi International Airport. Houthi rebels used drones to set three transport tankers on fire, killed three men, and injured six more people. The US is now working with the UAE on a reponse to the attack, with the US National Security Advisor stating, “We stand beside our Emirati partners against all threats to their territory”.

    • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided over the weekend to ban the use of recreational drones and light sports aircraft following recent attacks at an oil facility and airport.
    • The ban came into force on Sunday.
    • The misuse, according to APNews, involved Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeting an oil facility in Abu Dhabi using explosives attached to drones.
    • The US is now working with the UAE on a reponse to the attack, with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stating, “we stand beside our Emirati partners against all threats to their territory.”
    • Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the attacks carried out at the two locations were, “prohibited by international law,” but is keen for the situation not to escalate.

Recreational Drones Banned In United Arab Emirates

Following recent attacks on an oil plant and an airport, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided over the weekend to prohibit the use of recreational drones and light-sport aircraft.

The UAE Ministry of Interior confirmed the ban on Saturday, citing “recent misuse, such as not confining the practice of these sports to the regions stated in the user permits and trespassing into places where these types of activities are prohibited,” according to The Verge.

The ban went into effect on Sunday.

According to APNews, Yemen’s Houthi rebels used drones equipped with explosives to target an oil complex in Abu Dhabi.

Three transport tankers were set on fire, three individuals were killed, and six more were injured in the incident.

A second drone strike took place at Abu Dhabi International Airport, causing a fire but “no substantial damage.”

“We stand behind our Emirati friends against all threats to their territory,” said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, as the US works with the UAE on a response to the incident.

In the meantime, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the attacks at the two facilities were “prohibited by international law,” but he hopes the situation does not worsen.

By prohibiting the use of drones, the UAE Ministry of Interior should be able to respond more promptly to future attacks, as any drones observed in the air are now unlawful.

Airworthiness Certification Given to a Flying Car

The Slovak Transport Authority has awarded a certificate of airworthiness to a flying car capable of reaching speeds of over 100 mph (160 km/h) and heights of over 8,000 feet (2,500 meters).

AirCar, a hybrid car airplane, is powered by a BMW engine and runs on ordinary gasoline.

It takes two minutes and fifteen seconds for an automobile to become an aircraft.

The certification came after 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 take offs and landings, according to the business.

Prof. Stefan Klein, the founder of AirCar, remarked, “It opens the door to mass production of incredibly efficient flying cars.

“It’s official, and it’s the last proof of our potential to change the way people travel large distances.”

    Feeling Good

The flying automobile flew between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia, for 35 minutes in June.

The news was “a good step down the road” for the company, according to Dr Steve Wright, a senior research fellow in avionics and aircraft systems at the University of the West of England, who said he was “cautiously optimistic that I will see a few AirCars one day but I think there is still a long way to go.”

Vehicles that can fly and be driven on the road are also being developed by other firms.

In Europe, the three wheeled PAL-V Liberty, which looks like a gyrocopter, is road legal and moving toward certification by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

Dr. Wright, on the other hand, is wary of the widespread appeal of flying cars.

“Yes and no,” he responded, “are flying automobiles the future?”

“The personal transport revolution is on its way, but it doesn’t look like it yet.

“In terms of transportation, it has a niche although a very exciting niche.”

    Taxi Services by Air

A pilot’s license is required to fly the AirCar, which takes off and lands like a traditional plane.

However, a number of businesses are developing unpiloted air taxis that will fly autonomously and land and take off vertically.

They’re hoped to be a convenient and adaptable mode of transportation, and some of them are garnering a lot of money.

Nordvpn’s Latest Update Brings Dark Web Monitor and Security Score to Windows

NordVPNNordVPN’s new upgrades make it easier to stay safe when you are online. The dark web monitor scans the dark web for the email address used to register your NordVPN account, and raises an alert if your details are detected in a data breach. The Security Score measures your current security level as a percentage, and gives advice on how to boost this to improve your safety.

    • NordVPN’s latest update brings Dark Web Monitor and Security Score to WindowsNordVPN’s fresh additions make it simpler to stay safe onlineNordVPN has just updated its VPN app on Windows, finally bringing a couple of handy Mac and mobile features to the desktop.
    • Similar features are available in the best identity theft protection services, as well as the best antivirus suites and even some of the best password managers.
    • NordVPN’s Dark Web Monitor, released on iOS back in November 2020, scans the dark web for the email address used to register your NordVPN account, and raises an alert if your details are detected in a data breach.
    • Security Made EasyDark Web Monitor works automatically, but is turned off by default.
    • NordVPN’s new Security Score rates your current protection level as a percentage, and gives advice on how you can boost this to improve your safety.

NordVPN’s VPN client for Windows has recently been upgraded, bringing a few of useful Mac and mobile capabilities to the desktop for the first time.

The finest identity theft protection programs, as well as the best antivirus suites and even some of the best password managers, all have similar characteristics.

NordVPN’s Dark Web Monitor, which was released on iOS in November 2020, searches the dark web for the email address you used to sign up for your NordVPN account and sends you an alert if your information is found in a data breach.

    Security Made Easy

The Dark Web Monitor is turned off by default, yet it operates automatically. If you’re interested, go to Settings, Dark Web Monitor, and turn on the Turn On button to get notified if your information is exposed in a data breach.

NordVPN’s brand new Security Score calculates your current level of protection as a percentage and offers recommendations on how to enhance it.

Our Score was a pitiful zero when we first installed the upgrade. However, connecting to a NordVPN server in our area increased it to 40 percent. We got to 60 percent by enabling Dark Web Monitor as well.

Turning on the kill switch, enabling ‘auto-connect on launch,’ and setting up Multi-factor Authentication on our NordVPN account were among the additional settings modifications required to get us to a maximum 100 percent.

    Who Is It For?

The functionality is aimed at new subscribers who may not be aware that their current security settings are inadequate. However, simply by noting a change, having the app security level summed up in a single tiny indicator has benefits for everyone.

If your device’s kill switch is switched off by another user, or if there’s a problem with an app update, the Security Score will immediately flag the issue. In the next day or two, NordVPN’s Windows client should prompt you to update. To see your current version, go to Settings, General, and look for 6.42.4.0 or later.

This Is The Wired Keyboard Apple Should Have Produced

Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro owners can now have a classic wired keyboard matching the Apple aesthetic’s look, color, and feel. These keyboard is available in Silver or Space Gray colors.

The Matias Wired Aluminum Keyboard fills in a few holes that Apple opted not to pursue, taking design inspiration from Apple’s famous aluminum keyboards.

    Wired Aluminum Keyboard

USB Hub: The built-in hub is ideal for connecting external drives as well as the standard wired mouse (or wireless dongle). The USB 2.0mouse-friendly (2-port) built-in hub is perfect for attaching your favorite wired mouse (or wireless dongle) to flash drives or other devices with a 2nd port available.

Number Pad: This is the one to get if you like Apple’s wired keyboard with numeric keypad but wish it was wireless.

Our Choice For Best HomeKit Compatible Smart Plugs

    HomeKit Compatible Smart Plugs

Using a smart plug is a simple as well as a cost effective method to monitor small appliances such as the lamps in your smart home.

    What Is Homekit?

More and more pieces of hardware equipment, devices and other items are linked to the internet these days, which is why you’ve heard the Internet of Things. HomeKit is the Internet of Things solution from Apple that ties HomeKit enabled smart accessories together in a way that lets you use your Apple products to run them.

HomeKit is Apple’s smart home platform designed to allow you to control multiple internet connected home devices with Apple devices, ranging from thermostats and plugs to window blinds, light bulbs, and more.

If you’re unfamiliar with smart home devices, their features, and their advantages, the HomeKit ecosystem can seem overwhelming and confusing, but getting started is actually easy and straightforward.

    What Is a Smart Plug?

To be useful, connected devices need not be complex. For example take the smart plug, it simply turns things on and off, but becomes a very versatile device when connected to a smart home platform such as Homekit.

Smart plugs are useful for automating daily kitchen appliances for convenience. Imagine when you wake up in the morning and your coffee machine is already running, or your tea kettle has already boiled, so you can start your day in the right manner. Or you could load up your Crock-Pot in the morning and turn it on with your mobile from work if you like slow-cooking.

    What Does A Smartplug Do?

A smart plug, controlled by an app, allows you to turn any appliance that plugs into a standard wall socket on and off. You can actively control it as part of a solution such as homekit, or automate it so that it responds to schedules and triggers from your security system.

Just plug your smart plug into any wall socket, then plug the appliance of your choice into it. Smart plugs can be used with a bread maker, lamp, TV, cable box, coffee machine or anything else that you might want, you can use smartplugs to turn them on and off.

We test and check a lot of smart plugs, but you may not care much about those that only support Alexa or Google Assistant if you’re into the Apple ecosystem; you probably want one that works with HomeKit. We believe that these are the best smart plugs that are compatible with HomeKit.

There’s lots of smart home items that work with the HomeKit interface from Apple, which makes it a breeze to secure setup and enables you to monitor anything on your iPhone from the Home app. But there’s not enough to monitor every lamp and appliance you want, as there are always so many things to monitor in your home.

That’s when it comes to smart plugs. Plug one into your normal wall socket, then plug it into your dumb device: a fan, a bedside lamp, your electric kettle, or whatever you want. If HomeKit is compatible with the smart plug, you can then use the Home app or Siri (as well as shortcuts) to turn the outlet on or off.

You’ll want to make sure you have either an Apple TV, HomePod, or a plugged-in iPad on your local network at home to serve as a Home Hub to really make the most of a HomeKit-compatible unit. This helps you to remotely control your HomeKit gadgets and also set up Automation that manages several devices at once depending on the time, location, or behaviour of other devices.

Our Choice Of Best Overall Smart Plug

For HomeKit, IFTTT, SmartThings, Nest, Wink, Alexa, and Google Assistant support the iHome SP6 is a compact and affordable smart plug chioce that supports these many different smart home ecosystems. It is compact and wide design does not hinder access to the plug above or below and is quick and easy to set up. The iHome app shows how much power the outlet has used and also allows for other controls, although you may want to stick to HomeKit.

What Is The Role Of A Smartplug In Your Smart Home?

Having so many uses means Smart plugs are a versatile smart home building block. Security wise, you get a smart light with home safety benefits when you plug a lamp into a smart plug.

At certain or scheduled times, you can have the lamp to turn on, such as when you are on your way home, or even when another smart home device, such as a motion sensor, activates it. If an alarm happens at your house, it can automatically be turned on to stop or scare off an intruder.

Our Recommendation as Best Smart Plug for Power Users

The hub in Lutron’s starter kit will monitor more than just the smart plugs that come with it. It also supports in-wall dimmer switches from Lutron and window shades operated by Serena. Compatible with HomeKit, as well as other smart home environments, this is our choice for advanced applications.

A disadvantage is that these are two-prong plugs that transform a standard plug into a dimmer switch, and can only used for lamps. Instead, you need a straight on/off three-prong plug if you want to power a fan, heater, or electric kettle, for example.

Android 12: Date of Publication, Functionality, Rumors, Leaks, and More

Google has not yet released their next operating system for smartphones, but it’s expected an announcement will be made soon.

Google is probably close to launching the first Android 12 beta developer, but we don’t really know anything about the forthcoming update so far. That said, some screenshots have leaked, and to make some informed guesses, we can use Google’s past launches as a guide. Below is what we know at present, and what we believe we know at present, about Android 12.

When’s Android 12 Going to Be Released?

Any day now, a developer beta may be released and Google normally accompanies the developer beta with a public beta a few months later. A formal release then occurs around August.

The period of development for each new version of Android is long, with a beta developer normally released early in the year. On Feb. 19 2020, the first developer preview of Android 11 was launched by Google. If the same timing is adopted by Google, we might see Android 12 very shortly.

Public beta, which allows someone with a comaptible smartphone like a Google Pixel or OnePlus phone to sign up and help Google test the new Android update. An official release happens toward the end of the American summer after developers have had time to get their apps ready for new APIs, and Google has time to finalize the build and get rid of any lingering bugs. Last year, Android 11 released on Sept. 8th.

What Will This New Version Be Named?

As Google has left behind its public dessert naming scheme, numbers are the future, so we expect Android 12 to be the name of this upcoming Android version.

Google revealed with the introduction of Android 10 in 2019 that it was no longer going to use dessert names for the annual release of an Android update. Google launched Android 11 last year. So, we assume, that brings the release of this year on Android 12.

That said, Google also uses sweets for potential updates as its internal code names, and thanks to XDA Developers, who have a lot of knowledge about this pending OS update, we have a decent idea that it is named Snow Cone internally.

Which New Features Will Be Added To The Android 12 Version?

As we get nearer to the first developer preview, leaks are beginning to become more regular. One hand mode, Material NEXT, enhanced multitasking, as well as a dedicated game mode are rumoured.

Until the developer beta is available, Google generally does a pretty good job of keeping new Android features under wraps. With very little data leaked on what’s in Android 12, this year is no different.

That said, some screenshots reportedly from documents shared with Google’s partners were recently released by XDA Developers. These screenshots and information is for Google’s partners and is to let them know what’s new in Android 12 so that they can start their planning.

    Googles Partners

Looking at the screenshots, you can see that the widgets look entirely new, close to what widgets look like on iOS 14. There is also a new colour coded privacy mark that lights up the signal meter anytime an app has been or is viewed by the device’s microphone and camera.

Again, this is similar to the iOS feature when an app has recently accessed or is currently using your microphone and camera, which puts a coloured dot on the screen.

XDA Developers have posted even more detail about Android 12 over the last couple of days. There’s a new direction that the creators of Android’s Material Design should adopt.

It’s called Material NEXT, at least internally, according to XDA Developers, and it seems to allow hardware partners to customize the applications to suit their brand on top of the material design.

For one-handed use, Android actually has a few different options, but manufacturers the handset currently decide how it is applied. With Android 12, XDA has found evidence of a new one handed mode that can be integrated into its smartphones by hardware partners.

It’s uncertain how it’s going to work, but XDA says that the window will narrow to 40 percent of its height with a gesture when it’s activated, taking buttons and text closer to the thumb at the top of the screen. Since Apple released larger iPhone versions that do something similar, iPhone users have had a Reachability feature.

XDA also notes that proof of a new GameManagerClient on Android 12 has been discovered this is a dedicated gaming mode and is another fascinating feature that is rumored to appear on Android 12.. The service looks like it can help people who like to play on their mobile devices do things like do not disturb trigger, adjust window brightness, and when a game is opened, disable auto-rotate.

And lastly,  Android 12 also seems to have a new multitasking workflow split-screen, which could help improve efficiency. The new method includes the development of app pairs, as you can do on Samsung Galaxy phones right now, to launch two applications that you often use in split-screen mode at the same time.
